Where can you use travertine?

That is a tricky question to answer simply. The reason being – there are so many factors.
If you’re using unfilled and tumbled travertine, this finish is generally appropriate for internal and external use, both in the weather and undercover. However, you need to be aware of the natural air holing and porosity, and make an informed decision. For example, if you’re looking to create an outdoor kitchen or entertaining area with travertine, you would be best to grout the tile to stop any crumbs and spillages sitting into this natural feature. It would also making cleaning more manageable if you apply a penetrating sealer, and maintain this every few years.

If you’re using Honed and Filled travertine, we recommend that this only be installed internally, as rain and frosts can make this a slip hazard when used external and under the elements. For some reason, using Honed and Filled tiles is “trending” across Sydney but we think that its’ perfect for areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, as the honed finish repels water and spillages. If you desperately want to use the honed and filled externally, the design looks beautiful feature on walls and water features, as well as retaining walls.
